What is the difference between Download and Streaming?
The difference between downloading a movie and streaming is simple: Streaming allows users to watch a movie as it is sent from our servers to their computer in a close approximation to real time, with only a short buffering period to begin. Viewers are limited only by their connection speed and network congestion; better connection speeds allow higher quality video streams. Downloaded movies reside on your PC, therefore not encountering the same connection speed limitations as streaming video although the length of time for download may vary based upon similar metrics like your connection speed and overall connection quality. Unlike streaming content, download titles require you to wait for the movie to download in its entirety to your computer (this may take a while) but the downloaded video will allow for higher quality viewing experience.

Connection Speed / BitrateWhat is a bitrate?
Bitrate describes the rate at which bits are transferred from one location to another and is measured in kilobits per second (kbps). In the case of streaming multimedia, the bitrate measurement determines the connection speed that is required for the file to play without interruptions. The rule of thumb for bitrate is that larger bitrate numbers result in higher-quality videos. Keep in mind that higher bitrate files require higher bandwidth connection speeds.
Why is my connection speed detected?
Your connection speed is detected in order to determine the associated movie file that is provided to you for Pay-Per-Minute. This value will be used to select the default bitrate for any given movie or scene. In the event the connection speed does not match the available bitrates for a particular movie, Theater will select the closest bitrate to the member's connection speed rounded down.
What happens if I cancel the connection speed detection process?
If you cancel out of the connection speed detection, you will be prompted to select a bitrate when you play your first movie. The system will store your selection as the default for the remainder of your session.
Can I choose a different bitrate?
Yes. If the movie that you would like to play has additional bitrates available, you will find arrows beside the media player buttons for that movie.
![]() When you click those arrows, a dropdown list of all the available bitrates for that specific movie will appear, with your default bitrate selected. ![]() To change the bitrate, click the bitrate you would like and your media player will begin playing in that bitrate. Keep in mind that larger bitrate numbers result in higher-quality videos which require higher bandwidth connection speeds. Can I search for movies by bitrate?
Yes. The advanced search options for both movies and scenes will allow you to filter your search by three different bitrate categories:
What browsers support the connection speed detection process?
Bitrate detection functionality is only available for Mozilla / Firefox and Internet Explorer users. Safari and Chrome are not supported.

What is the difference between Download and Streaming?
The difference between downloading a movie and streaming is simple: streaming allows users to watch a movie as it is sent from our servers to their computer in a close approximation to real time, with only a short buffering period to begin. Viewers are limited only by their connection speed, the size of their file and network congestion. Keep in mind that better connection speeds allow higher quality video streams.
Downloaded movies reside on your PC, so they will not encountering the same connection speed limitations as streaming video. The length of time for download may vary based upon similar metrics like your connection speed and overall connection quality, however. Remember that higher bitrate files are larger, so they will take longer to download. Unlike streaming content, download titles require you to wait for the movie to download in its entirety to your computer (this may take a while) but the downloaded video will allow for higher quality viewing experience. What software and operating system do I need?
You will need Windows Media Player, version 9 or greater. Supported operating systems include Windows 98 SE, 2000, XP, and Vista.
What is the Free Download Manager and how can it help me?
To assist in downloading movies with large file sizes we recommend using "Free Download Manager". This is a free utility that is maintained by a third party that can be found at http://www.freedownloadmanager.org. This utility will help you if you need to stop and resume in the middle of a download and can also streamline the download process so that it is more efficient.
You should be familiar with how to find and save files to a specific directory on your computer if you choose to use this tool. You should also note that Free Download Manager may attempt to rename the file download to DownloadManager.aspx. You can manually override the file name or rename the file once it has been downloaded. Free Download Manager has a preview mode for viewing video files, but this option is not compatible with our current video encryption process and will not work with our movies. Can I use other Download Managers?
You can use any Download Manager that you like as long as the application is a plug-in type of utility for Internet Explorer or Firefox. Applications that require URLs to be passed directly to the application will not work with our movies because of our security model.
The Firefox browser has a download manager included as a feature. I use a Mac. Will downloads work for me?
Unfortunately, if you are using a Mac OS, you will not be able to view any of our downloadable content as we include Microsoft's Digital Rights Management (DRM) coding within each download that is not compatible with Macs. However; this content is not precluded from you as a Mac user. You should be able to view most of our streaming content by using the Flip4Mac plugin or you can choose to download Realplayer.
What connection speed do I need to download the movies?
It is recommended that only broadband (Cable, xDSL, Satellite) connections be used for downloading our files as the length of time required to completely transfer these files from our networks to your computer will vary. Downloads attempted from a standard 56k dial-up or other narrow-band connection will most likely not be successful. Here is a handy chart that will give a reasonable expectation based upon file size versus connection speeds:
What is "Download to Own"?
Unlike a "Download Rental", that you download once and can watch many times until the rental license expires, a "Download to Own" will never expire. The first time you play the movie, your Windows Media Player will acquire a license from our server and store it on your computer for you. From then on, you may watch the movie on that computer as much as you want, even without a network connection. You may download one movie on up to three computers, and Windows Media Player will acquire a license for each. At any time, you may go to "My Account" and choose "My Purchases" then click the Downloads tab to see how many licenses remain for each of your "Download To Own" movies.
Can I copy my "Download to Own" movie to other computers?
You may copy or download the movie to more than one computer up to a total of 3 instances. Each time a new computer plays the movie, that computer's Windows Media Player will acquire a license from our servers for the movie and store it for that computer. This licensing process allows for a single movie to be installed to a single computer 3 times or once to 3 separate computers.
I accidentally deleted my "Download to Own" movie. What do I do?
You may download the same "Download To Own" movie to your computer again, provided you have remaining licenses and there are no corruptions within your Windows Media Player. From "My Account", simply choose "My Purchases" and click the Downloads tab and you may begin your download process again. Windows Media Player should recognize that your download is the same and will use the license it stored previously from the first time your movie was viewed. This new download should not use any of your remaining licenses.
I accidentally deleted my "Download Rental". What do I do?
You may download the same "Download Rental" as many times as you like until your rental expires. There is no licensing as would be involved in our standard Download To Own titles, however; Once your rental period has expired, you may no longer download the movie and previously downloaded copies will no longer play.
What is the pricing for a download movie?
Prices for downloading movies will vary for the 7-day, 30-day "Download Rental", and "Download to Own" options and may not be the same for all titles. AEBN's pricing is determined in part by the respective studios that produce these movies and may be under specific pricing specifications. You are free to browse individual movies to verify its pricing and available purchasing options.
How do I know how much time I have left?
